T

he Saastal is separated from the Mattertal valley, which leads to Zermatt, by the Dom. The two valleys and their tributaries of the Visp river then come together just South of Visp, where in turn the river joins the Rhône. A post bus service operates up Saastal, which rises after Saas-Grund up to the plateau where Saas-Fee lies. The most famous son of the valley is the retired downhill racer, Pirmin Zurbriggen, and the family ties are much in evidence throughout the region.
