Graubünden Ski Resort Ratings

Graubünden is the largest and most spectacular of the Swiss cantons. Within its boundaries there are communities that speak Swiss German, Italian and Romansh, and there are still communities whose character is distinct from other Swiss German speakers due to their origin with a mysterious migration of people from Valais, the Wallisers. The rivers of the region drain into the the Adriatic, via the Po, the North Sea, via the Rhine, and the Black Sea, via the Inn and the Danube. In broad terms, however, the region can be characterised by resorts that can be reached easily from Chur along the Rhine and the valleys of its tributaries, and those which are alongside the En (known as the Inn in Austria) in a valley known as the Engadine.

The density of resorts in the canton is remarkable, and they include some of the most famous in the world such as Davos and St Moritz. And the fame is justified because Graubünden not only has fabulous skiing and snowboarding, it caters better than any other canton for a broad range of winter sports activities - even winter golf and horse racing!

For most travellers the easiest airport to access Graubünden is Zurich, although Basel only adds an hour on to the journey time. The Swiss National Railways service ends at Chur, from whence the Rhaetian Railways operate the trains along some of the most spectacular rail journeys in the world, including the UNESCO World Heritage route to St Moritz. Then again if you are a real jet-setter, you'll probably just fly your private jet into Samedan and enjoy the scenery from the air.
