Winter Sports in Les Marécottes

A

group of unlinked ski resorts make up the Pays du St-Bernard ski region, with Les Marécottes being perhaps the easiest to reach as it lies on the so called Mont Blanc Express, a narrow gauge cog railway that runs between Martigny and Chamonix and on to St Gervais. The section Les Marrècottes lies on is known as the Martigny–Châtelard Railway.

Lying in the Trient valley, the resort has some decent runs for all abilities, a lot of good lift-served off-piste , a reasonable lift system and stunning views. The red runs to skiers right of the chairlift are unprepared, whilst a section of off-piste lies between the chairlift and the main pistes. The resort markets itself as having 100% natural snow, i.e. they don't have any snow cannon, but it does have a good snow record and cannon would be of relatively limited benefit.

Where to Eat and Party

The restaurant at La Creusaz is the culinary and social heart of the resort. It specialises in sizzling steaks - choose beef, horse or kangaroo! There is also a small café at the top of the Le Velard chairlift with stunning views.

Getting There

By Public Transport

The best destination to access the downhill slopes by public transport in this ski area is Les Marécottes. The gondola station is about fifteen minutes walk from the lifts, but a fortunately a courtesy bus co-ordinates with train arrivals and departures to obviate the need to walk. The walk back to the station is easier, as it is downhill.
