S

t Stephan is a small community with the rickety two seat Lengebrand chairlift giving access to the largest ski area in the Gstaad Mountain Rides circuit, connecting up to runs down to Saanenmöser, Zweisimmen and Schönried. The valley run here tends to get chewed up earlier in the season than the other valley runs so it is not surprising that plans for upgrading the Gstaad Mountain Rides facilities have included the proposed closure of the Lengebrand chairlift. Nonetheless, for now it is still with us.

Best of the Slopes

The run off Parwengesattel towards St Stephan is a lovely scenic run, great for carving. There's usually good off-piste if there has been recent fresh snow on the other side of the Parwengesattel.

Getting There

By Public Transport

The best destination to access the downhill slopes by public transport in this ski area is Zweisimmen. Station adjacent to Rinderberg Gondola at Zweisimmen (left out of station). Note that the lift pass is good for all lifts in Gstaad Mountain Rides and on all local buses and the railway as far as Rossinière. Stations at Saanenmöser, Schönried, Saanen, Rougement and Château-d'Oex are all a few minutes walk from valley stations. The bottom station in St Stephan is served by a train from Zweisimmen (destination Lenk) which takes 9 minutes, the price of which is also covered by the lift pass. The resort operates the Snow'n'Rail scheme, providing a 20% discount on the combined travel ticket and lift pass.
