wenty minutes from Pontresina and thirty minutes from St Moritz by bus lie the isolated base stations for Diavolezza and Lagalb, a few hundred metres from each other in a bleak valley below the Bernina Pass. As well as buses, both base stations are also served by rail links from Samedan and Pontresina. There are good mountain restaurants at the top of both lifts, with the one on Diavolezza also providing accommodation. The runs are mostly for strong intermediates, and lack variety, but for the more experienced there is some good off-piste. Although the resort usually opens as early as October and finishes as late as May, there is often a period in late November and early December when the lifts are closed.

Best of the Slopes

Diovalezza base station is high, so it provides good long runs in both early and late season. Round the back of Diovalezza is the beautiful 10 km glacier descent to Morteratsch along a marked trail. Both Lagalb and Diovalezza have good areas for free-riding but you will need a guide.

Where to Eat and Party

The Berghaus Diavolezza (+41 81 839 39 00) at the top of the cable car is worth the round trip for the views alone, but the food is good and it also offers accomodation and an outdoor jacuzzi.

Getting There

By Public Transport

The best destination to access the downhill slopes by public transport in this ski area is Bernina Diavolezza or Bernina Lagalb. Stations adjacent to cable cars for both Lagalb and Diovalezza. Bus also runs between base stations and to/from St Moritz, Pontresina and Celerina (#2). The resort operates the Snow'n'Rail scheme, providing a discount on the combined travel ticket and lift pass.
